When I grew up in the 60's as a rough-and-tumble tomboy, I used to fantasize that I still had a choice as to whether I would grow up to be male or female. I was sure that if I ended up as a boy, I'd be shipped off to Vietnam. But if I was a girl–I would have to bear a child—an equally horrifying prospect.
