Lesbian Short Film: The Morning After

From the mind of writer and director Katie Shannon, comes a drama that allows us to spend 10 minutes as a fly on the wall during the darkest part of any relationship. In The Morning After, Sam (Amy DePaola) and Lauren (Allison Faythe) are forced to address the infidelity and resentment that they have been harboring deep inside.

I wanted to make a film that people can relate to no matter what your sexual orientation or gender.  I think this is something many couples at some point have experienced – relationships that are good and bad, gay and straight. The Morning After will make you feel uncomfortable and may dig up some old emotions you have tried to bury or hide away. We have gotten a great deal of positive feedback already in the first few days the film has premiered, and I think that is because so many people have experienced a similar event but perhaps felt that they were alone.

I had directed Amy and Allison on separate projects, but this was the first time that they have worked together. They met on the set that morning and just brought it from the first take. They deliver very real and heartfelt performances that leave you feeling like you are standing in their bedroom watching the darkest hour of their relationship. As a director, it was really the first time I was in awe in what was happening in front of me.  Amy and Allison are both advocates for gay rights and the LGBT film community.
